Another week, another post with my outfit du jour. Today, I salute the hipster; the epitome of indifference (much like cats hehe, Big Bang Theory viewers will get this). Mastering the indifferent hipster look requires haphazard hair, a carefully placed beanie, geek chic glasses, an oversized military-style jacket and layers upon layers of whatever is hanging in your closet. Striped tee? Yep. Plaid shirt? You betcha. Combine them? Absolutely. It’s a science, really. There is a considerable amount of effort needed to look this messy and unkempt.
My salute to sartorial indifference is as follows:
Jeans: Forever 21
Military jacket: VS Pink Grey sweatshirt: H&M Necklace: Urban Outfitters
Black beanie: Vintage shop in Athens, OH Glasses: Warby Parker
Happy Wednesday and go forth in your hipster-ness,
I am absolutely loving the crisp, cooler temperatures that have settled over the Midwest. The perfect excuse to wrap up in those big, chunky sweater dresses. H&M was having a buy one get one sale so I just couldn’t resist ; ) My roommate’s dog, Murphy, was looking ever so dapper in his Fall bandana so he just had to help out!
As women we have the great fortune of seeking fashion inspiration not only from our fellow females, but from our male counterparts as well. Lately on the runways, we have seen a trend for designing menswear for women and applying their tailoring to fit our body types. And it is surprisingly chic!
Men’s fashion has a way of mixing the sporty with the dapper, the frat guy with the investment banker, if you will. To imitate this carefree, mixed style I suggest looking through a copy of GQ to see how they play with layers and blending different styles into one outfit. Men’s fashion can translate into womenswear so pick up a copy of GQ! If not for the fashion inspiration, then for the man candy gracing those pages.
Here is my interpretation of layering the ‘man’ way:
Black blazer: H&M Denim button up, jeans, and loafers: Forever 21 Sunnies: Ray Ban
Layering a denim button up under a tailored blazer is unexpected and adding a baseball cap brings in that sporty vibe to a chic look. Finish with loafers and an oversized metal watch.
Pink pants: H&M White sleeveless collared shirt: Forever 21 Tan v-neck sweater: H&M Wedge tennis shoes: Target …you may see a trend of where I buy my clothes
Adding to the sporty chic vibe is a pair of super fly wedge tennis shoes that look like they were stolen off the set of Back to the Future. (They weren’t, I just have questionable taste according to my friends). Making this menswear inspired outfit more girly is the pair of statement pink trousers. Statement pants are hot for Fall, much like the hot pink color of these H&M pants. Pink may scream Spring, but there are no rules for color anymore as evidenced by white being the “It” color of this Fall.
On a beautiful Saturday evening, Kyla and I headed to the Scioto Mile in downtown Columbus to snap some pictures of our latest fall outfits. It’s a great spot right along the river, showing off the best of C-bus architecture.
With the pesky, unpredictable Midwestern weather, we can be in the need of cut off shorts one day and pants and a bulky sweater the next. It’s all about balance. Cut off shorts day? A boyfriend blazer adds a bit of class to the carefree bottoms of choice. Bulky sweater day? Opt to wear it with a pair of tight trousers or skinny jeans. And alas, the woman’s most powerful weapon of mass destruction…the dress. For fall, it’s all about lace. What used to be considered Grandma’s doily fabric of choice is now a chic, vintage collector’s item that you can pair with a sharp leather jacket and boots. Dress it up, dress it down; either way it is a great investment.
Dark colors like oxblood and mixing prints will be your friend this fall. Don’t match? Don’t care! Play with different fabrics and textures to make your outfits stand out.
